2. Texas Medical Center
Composed of over forty non-profit hospitals, research facilities, and teaching institutions, the Texas Medical Center is one of the largest concentrations of health care and medical research in North America. Over five million patients are treated at the Texas Medical Center every year, and more heart surgeries are preformed here than anywhere else in the world.
The Texas Medical Center is bounded by the Museum District and Rice University. Hermann Park, the largest park in the city, includes the Houston Zoo and the Houston Museum of Natural Science. A trio of circular fountains is located adjacent to the Museum of Fine Arts, and the playful Children's Museum is a short walk away. The spreading live oaks which frame the entrance to Rice University extend outward to line the adjacent streets.
