Braeswood Place is made up of several subdivisions, including Ayrshire, Braes Heights, Braes Oaks, Braes Manor, Braes Terrace, Emerald Forest, and Southern Oaks. These neighborhoods were originally developed in the 1950's, and fine examples of "mid-century modern" ranch homes can still be found here. Like many of Houston's older neighborhoods, Braeswood Place had been experiencing a slow transition to newer structures. However, the renewal process accelerated in 2001 after Braes Bayou topped its banks during Tropical Storm Allison.
In the 80's, the non-profit Stella Link Redevelopment Association began acquiring and tearing down the old, drug-infested apartment complexes once located along Stella Link Boulevard. Today, this 20-acre tract extending between Mark Twain Elementary and Pershing Middle School has been cleared and converted to prime civic use. The re-developed heart of the community includes the two public schools and a new YMCA, library, senior citizens' center, Little League ball fields and a rose garden called Helen's Park. Karl Young Park is also located in Braeswood Place and features basketball courts, a tennis court, ball fields, playgrounds and a picnic pavilion. Homes for sale in Braeswood Place take advantage of all these great community amenities.
