This is one of those moments that demonstrates why I LOVE living in West University Place. Check out these delightful munchkins! This annual parade celebrates the kickoff of the West U Girls Softball season. No question - this is home-town living at its best!
The parade is sponsored by one of our neighborhood sports organizations - the West University Softball Association (WUSA). WUSA is one of the largest fastpitch softball organizations in the country, with over 500 girls on over 50 teams. The players range from 4 t0 15 years old for the regular spring and fall season, and from 7 to 16 years for summer tournaments teams. The teams compete on a number of local playing fields, including the grounds of West University Elementary School; Pershing Middle School; and the new "South Campus" down Stella Link.
WUSA lists its priorities as "safety, fun, skills and winning, in that order." The all-volunteer organization strives to strike a balance between competition and participation. For example, the rules require all player to rotate onto the filed at least one inner per game.
