Cynthia Candela Joins Roger Martin Properties

Cynthia Candela of Roger Martin PropertiesPlease give a big welcome to Cynthia Candela, the newest Sales Associate at Roger Martin Properties.

Cynthia has just earned her real estate license.  I believe that her life has uniquely qualified her to succeed at real estate.  Let's start with her high energy and enthusiasm.  Then let's add in her previous sales and marketing experience.  Cynthia has taught children with learning disabilities, both professionally and as a volunteer, so right away I knew she had to be a great communicator.  And her artistic bent is shown in her award-winning, published faux finishing skills.

Cynthia's two children are now college-age.  She lives and works in West U.  In fact, her husband Stephen was raised in the neighborhood, and they both love close-knit, "college town" feel of West University Place.  I can personally testify to the quality of the homes that Stephen and his brother build under the name Candela Custom Homes.

Cynthia, we are so excited to have you here.  We expect great things from you!

Julie Webber - Realtor of the Week, Houston Chronicle

Julie Webber, Sales Associate with Roger Martin PropertiesCongratulations to Julie Webber, who was named Realtor of the Week by the Houston Chronicle.  Here's what they said about her...

RIVER OAKS HOME SALE KICKED OFF AGENTS' CAREER

Julie Webber started a career as a Realtor conducting Sunday open houses in hopes of making a sale or meeting potential buyers to find them a home. And as fate would have it, her first sale was to a couple touring her open house.

Doing her job, Webber was gracious, knowledgeable about the home on tour and eager to assist them. The couple told her what they wanted in a home, and Webber began to work with them in their search for the perfect place to live, which turned out to be in a River Oaks house in the $1.6 million range.

That sale was quite a boost to her morale as a new Realtor in 2010 and encouraged Webber to work in developing a top producing practice in the sale of residential real estate. Since that first sale she’s listed and sold homes in West University, Tanglewood, Memorial and neighborhoods from inside Loop 610 to Beltway 8.

Webber is a leading Realtor working in association with Roger Martin Properties, in the city of West University close to her home in "West U." She enjoys working at the boutique full-service real estate company and said there is a great chemistry between all who work at Roger Martin Properties.

"I have a great respect for Roger (Martin) and his wife Ann, who are both wonderful people to work with in their company. And when you work for people that are good, it makes you want to work harder and do better. Working at Roger Martin Properties helps you feel valued and respected," said Webber, who holds a degree in Communications and writes a blog called Clever Confidante with emphasis on interior design.

"I’ve always been interested in houses and interior design. I was a stay-at-home mom, and one of the reasons I decided to become a realtor was it offered me the opportunity to attend activities at my sons’ schools, and it was a profession that really complimented my skills and personality."

Webber has lived in Houston since 1981 and has met many people through the years and participated in numerous activities that have been very beneficial in building her clientele.

Webber said, "Working in real estate can be challenging at times, and it can be very rewarding. Selling and buying homes is emotional for some people and I like to feel I am helping by going to bat for people. And when the transaction is finalized, it is so rewarding when I get good results and feel happy about how smooth everything went from start to finish."

"I would not enjoy a high pressure sales job where it is all about numbers. But, I do enjoy real estate because it is all about relationships, and I enjoy being an advocate for people," said Webber, who was certified by the Houston Association of Realtors as a top production Realtor for the third quarter of 2012.

Congratulations, Julie!  And thank you for the very kind words.

WUSA Girls Softball - Kickoff Parade

The Kickoff Parade of the WUSA Girls Softball season.

This is one of those moments that demonstrates why I LOVE living in West University Place.  Check out these delightful munchkins!  This annual parade celebrates the kickoff of the West U Girls Softball season.  No question - this is home-town living at its best!

The parade is sponsored by one of our neighborhood sports organizations - the West University Softball Association (WUSA).  WUSA is one of the largest fastpitch softball organizations in the country, with over 500 girls on over 50 teams.  The players range from 4 t0 15 years old for the regular spring and fall season, and from 7 to 16 years for summer tournaments teams.  The teams compete on a number of local playing fields, including the grounds of West University Elementary School; Pershing Middle School; and the new "South Campus" down Stella Link.

WUSA lists its priorities as "safety, fun, skills and winning, in that order."  The all-volunteer organization strives to strike a balance between competition and participation.  For example, the rules require all player to rotate onto the filed at least one inner per game.

For more information about this excellent neighborhood program, check out the WUSA website.

Texas Construction Jobs Up in 2012

Construction Jobs Up Across Texas in 2012Good news from the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas!  Looks like Texas construction jobs were up in 2012...

Construction employment grew at an annualized 6.7 percernt rate through the first 10 months of the year, making the sector -- which includes residential, commercial and industrial building -- the second-fastest growing in the Texas economy after mining and logging, according to Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) data adjusted by the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas.  Nationally, construction jobs declined 0.2 percent over the same period.  Nevada, still recovering from a severe housing bust, recorded an 11 percent construction employment drop during the period.

Despite robust growth, Texas construction employment remains 11 percent below its May 2008 peak.  Nationally, it's down 28 percent from the April 2006 peak, at the height of the housing boom.

We can see all of that happening here in West University Place (specifically) and in Houston (generally).  Again, we are bucking the national trends.   I'd say that is a testament to the strength of our local economy!
