One reasen why the Houston real estate market has been growing at a sustainable rate, according to local brokers, is that there has been a measured amount of new inventory introduced to the market. Houston developers learned a valuable lesson after the housing market took a tumble in the 1980s. At the time, new housing inventory was brought on the market at the same time that the economy turned south. In 1983 the Houston appreciation rate on homes went into negative territory, where it stayed until it crawled back into positive territory in 1990..."
